The draft AQAP for Sheffield, which has been produced to help address the air quality problems in our urban area has recently been approved by Sheffield City Council's Cabinet for consultation.

Poor air quality harms human health and each year in Sheffield this has been estimated to cause up to 500 premature deaths with costs to the health service of around £95million.

The aim of the draft AQAP is to identify actions that can be taken to reduce local air pollution in order to meet National and European Union approved air quality standards. It will also have the added benefit of reducing greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to climate change.

The Air Quality Action Plan Steering Group wants to hear your views on the actions suggested so please take a look at the action plan and use the Comments Form to give your feedback.  Your views will be considered and will be reported to Cabinet to create a final plan taking account of all views in August 2011. Both the Action Plan and the Comment Form is now available for download at the Council's air quality web page: http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/environment/environmental-health/pollution/air/aqapc. Your response can be returned by e-mail or by using the Freepost address detailed on the Form.

You can request a hard copy version of the document by contacting ogo.osmmor@sheffield.gov.uk or call 0114 273 4655. Other alternative formats are also available on request.

Comments should be received by no later than Friday 29th April 2011.
